The article is a contrastive analysis of twenty two Czech and Polish onomatopoeic verbs from translations of J. K. Rowling’s book: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. The main source of data was Ćesky narodnf korpus - Korpus InterCorp v. 9. The starting point was locating the presence of examples of onomatopoeia separately in each translation and then verifying if their presence is motivated by onomatopoeia in the original text or not - usually it was. The next step was to establish what kinds of relations are present between the equivalent and the translated onomatopoeia.
